In Luke 11:49, Jesus called the written Word of God, “the wisdom of God”. Within the pages of our Bible is the wisdom of God. Why would we ever attempt anything on our own before seeking the wisdom of God first? Sometimes we’ve so convinced we have the knowledge, understanding, and wisdom to get the job done, we don’t ask anyone for advice, not even God. And when it fails, we’re bewildered as to what possibly went wrong. We learned something, but not the best way to get wisdom.
Proverbs 4:7 gives us great advice. “Wisdom is the principal; therefore get wisdom. And with all your getting, get understanding.” Principal here means highest rank, importance, or value. Believers can accomplish this by making time spent in God’s Word a priority, then applying what He tells them to do. God’s Word will never lead anyone astray.
Imagine the amount of time and effort we would save by seeking God first. Proverbs 2:6 says, “For the Lord gives wisdom; out of His mouth come knowledge and understanding.” How do we know for certain He gives wisdom? James 4:8 says: “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives it to all men liberally and without criticism, and it will be given to him.”
Whenever God asks us to do something for Him; we can’t use lack of wisdom as an excuse. God’s Wisdom is available all the time. He will never say, “Figure it out for yourself. I don’t have time for you today; I busy.” He will give us wisdom, plus the knowledge and understanding on how to use it. Wisdom and knowledge are not the same thing. A person may gather information and become knowledgeable. Knowledge alone won’t do much good without the understanding and wisdom on how to apply it. The Bible is a good example. Just memorizing the verses won’t do a Christian much good. When they apply what they learned, greater understanding and wisdom will follow.
God wisdom is superior; nothing compares to it. Let’s not forget; God is the Creator of the universe, He made everything in it, including us. God wants us to succeed in this life. We know this to be true by what’s written in Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Great rewards come to those who put God’s Word, His Wisdom first place in their lives. Joshua 1:8 says, when you do this, “you will make your way successful and you will be wise.”
