Read What Comes After, But…..

The Bible says that faith comes by the hearing and hearing of the Word of God. Those of us who have access to Christian programs are blessed beyond measure because we are given opportunities to have our faith increased by the hearing of God’s Word. The Victory Network is one of my personal favorites.  No matter the time of day, I will find men and women of faith on that network preaching gospel messages that will uplift and encourage me in my Christian walk.

One program I enjoy watching is Adventures in Faith with Dr. Jerry Saville. God has blessed him greatly throughout his 50+ years in ministry. I also enjoy reading Jerry Saville’s books, and listening to his messages of CD. Why? Because my faith is elevated after hearing what he shares based on God’s Word from the Bible.

He opened my eyes this morning to the significance of the word but found in particular scripture verses. The word but is a conjunction in the English language, and placed in the sentence for a purpose. In a sentence, the word but can have great significance, and change everything. God’s Word is filled with promises and one in particular in found in Psalm 34:19. There are many translations for this verse, and I chose three.

Many hardships and perplexing circumstances confront the righteous, But the Lord rescues him from them all. Amplified Version

People who do what is right may have many problems, but the Lord will solve them all. New Century Version

Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the Lord delivers him out of them all. New Kings James Version

Do you see the significance of the word but in this verse?

I was not a born-again believer yet when I came across this verse. I still had a lot to learn about God and His ways. Imagine my excitement when I discovered that God would deliver me out of all the problems and trials that came my way. I love it when the Bible says all, that means everything, not just some. I underlined this verse and memorized it. And God is true to His Word.  He has done this for me from the moment I first believed it. And He will do the same for you.

There are countless verses in the Bible that contain the word but. I chose to focus on just one today. I pray that my message today will stir you up, so when you come across the word but in a verse, your eyes of understanding will be opened to a greater degree to what God is saying to you through the passage of scripture you’re reading.

Are you timid to underline verses in your Bible with a marker or pen? I used to be that way but I got over it. My Bible is filled with underlined verses, and notes on the side. God speaks to me through His Word. I grateful that I can count of Him to deliver me of whatever trials come my way. That’s the God I serve; and I want to thank Him again today.
