The gifts of the Spirit including prophecy spoken of in the Bible are of great interest to me, and I welcome the opportunity to learn more about them.
One morning, I decided to watch the Concepts of Faith program on the Victory channel. Annette Capps is the host of this show and she shared she had just released a new book titled, The Spirit of Prophecy. What she shared about the book filled me with a desire to read it. When the program was over, I called the Lighthouse Bookstore in my city. To my delight, they had a copy and reserved one for me.
Annette Capps states in the Preface that her desire for writing the book was to share what the Holy Spirit has taught her about the things of the Spirit and what she learned from seasoned ministers. She acknowledges that her early guidance about the workings of the Sprit came from her Grandmother Capps who was often given information and direct guidance through visions and dreams. Her grandmother related stories of the tent meetings she attended, hearing anointed prophetic messages from Aimee Semple McPherson, William Branham, Oral Roberts, Kenneth E. Hagin and others. Annette is also the daughter of a well-known author and teacher, Charles Capps. Millions of copies of his books have been sold and read around the world.
Revelation 19:10 says, “Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”
Annette Capps chose to focus her book on the “spirit of prophecy” and how it flows. I learned so much by reading this book: About the spirit of prophecy in prayer; the spirit of prophecy in music; prophets and the music industry; signs and wonders and the working of miracles.
The title for Chapter 9 grabbed my attention. All Believers Can Prophesy. I love her words of encouragement: Never say, “I can’t. I can’t preach. I can’t prophesy. I can’t do any of these things.” Yes, you can. You absolutely can. After reading the chapter, readers will understand why this statement is true.
It’s amazing how God works. While writing the book, Annette came across a file in storage that contained transcripts of prophetic words given by her dad. Chapter 13 is devoted to prophetic utterances that came through her father back in the 70’s and 80’s One can see while reading that some prophecies are already fulfilled, and others in a small way. The author reminds readers that prophecy is still waiting for those willing to receive it!
This book has the potential to change your life and that of others. It’s a book that needs to be read slowly and more than once. There’s a lot to take in. I believe with the Holy Spirit’s guidance, it is truly possible to “flow in the spirit of prophecy.”
This book is a must read for those with the desire to draw closer to the power and presence of God.
Anne, another interesting topic for sure, the scripture does say all, it creates a desire to have this gift flowing in each one.
Thanks, Mike
Yes, God desires that we use the gifts He’s gives us to glory Him and encourage others.
