The “I Am” Statements Made By Jesus

If a new believer were to ask me where to begin reading in their Bible; I would recommend the Book of John. They would immediately be introduced to God the Father and His Son Jesus. In the Book of John, often referred to as the Love chapter, they will discover for themselves why this is so.

I love the Book of John, and today we’re going to examine the profound “I am” statements made by Jesus. Read each “I am” statement out loud and take in what Jesus is declaring to His listeners. May our ears hear and our hearts and minds comprehend what He is telling us in these statements.

John 6:35 – Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to Me shall never hunger and whoever believes in Me shall never thirst.”

John 8:12 – Again, Jesus spoke to them saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”

John 8: 17-18 – “Even in your law it is written that the testimony of two men is true. I am One who bears witness of Myself, and the Father that sent Me bears witness of Me.”

John 10:9 – I am the door. If anyone enters through Me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief does not come except to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it more abundantly.

John 10:11 & 14 – I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep. I am the good shepherd. I know My sheep and am known by My own. Even as the Father knows Me, so I know the Father. And I lay down My life for the sheep.

John 11:25 – Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me through he may die, yet shall he live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?”

John 14:6 – Jesus answered, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

John 15:5 – “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who remains in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit. For without Me you can do nothing.

John 18: 5-8 – When He said, “I am He.” they drew back and fell to the ground. Again Jesus asked them, “Whom do you seek.” They said, “Jesus of Nazareth.” Jesus answered, “I told you that I am He.

These verses tell us so much about Jesus, Our Lord and Savior. It is clear that those who follow Him will be greatly blessed. Throughout the Bible are many promises that believers in Jesus can claim for their very own. He is no respecter of persons. What He does for one, He will do for another.

I encourage you to read the whole Book of John to gain a better understanding of what Jesus is saying in the “I am” statements above. I pray that your hunger to know more about the Lord will grow, to the degree, that your life will be greatly blessed by adhering to what you’ve read in God’s Word.
