My husband and I participate in a fast every January. For the past several years, we chose to do a 21 day Daniel-type fast.
We are partners with Gary Johnson of the The Storehouse (Leadership Training Institute) based in Victoria, B.C. Brother Johnson invited his partners to participate in a 30 day fast, January 2-31, 2026. He provided a summary of the fast so we would know what is required.
Ezra 8:23 is one of my favorite Bible verses on fasting. However, Brother Johnson has asked that we read Isaiah 58:6-12 aloud every morning during the fast, and declare the promises found within. Based on these verses, we will be believing God for the following things:
Verse 6 – An increase of the anointing on our lives (Isaiah 10:27) – New anointings (Luke 4-1-2, 14)
Verse 8 – An increase of light – insights into the Word as well as ideas, concepts, favor. Our health springing forth – health, energy. Righteousness goes before us – influence, new open doors. Glory of the Lord – God’s presence.
Verse 9 – Fast answers to ours prayers
Verse 10 – Our light rises in obscurity – promotion. Our darkness as the noon day – clarity of thought, no more confusion
Verse 11 – The Lord will guide us – divine direction. Increased awareness and sensitivity to His voice. Satisfy our soul in drought – no more dry times. Make fat our bones – healthy, strong and well. Waters fail not – Our energy will increase, always fresh.
Verse 12 – (Message Translation) We’ll use the old rubble of past lives to build anew, rebuild the foundation from out of our past. We’ll be known as those who can fix anything, restore old ruins, rebuild and renovate, make the community livable again.
For the duration of the fast, we will only eat one meal per day. The meal will be a normal sized one eaten at the time of day we chose. For us, it will be the supper meal.
No snacks or sweets (no desserts) before or after the meal. However, one per week is permissible. We can drink as much as we want, but no liquid meal replacement or protein shakes etc.
We are encouraged to spend extra time praying in the Spirit, reading the Word, and listening for the voice of the Lord.
A note was included: Your body will scream at you for food, but remind yourself that the benefits associated with the fast will far exceed any temporary personal discomfort that you may experience.
Mike and I are expecting a mighty move of God during the next 30 days. We are seeking answers to prayer as a couple and individually. God knows the desires of our hearts, and He will answer in His time and way.
Thank you for taking the time to read my post. Please leave me a comment. I would love to hear from you.
