Do Not Forsake Assembling Together

My personal Bible is the Modern English Version; I like it because it’s easy to understand; yet stays close to the King James Version, a favorite of many believers. For today’s blog post, I’ve chosen Hebrews 10:24-25, verses that are part of an exhortation and warning that we need to pay close attention to. Above verse 19 in my Bible is the heading, Exhortation and Warning.

Hebrews 10:24 – “And let us consider how to spur one another to love and to good works.” As God’s children, we are to love and care for our brothers and sisters in Christ. We strive to be Christ-like in our thoughts, words, and deeds. When we live by example, others are provoked to want to do the same. God gave us all gifts and talents that we can use to show love and do good works. When unbelievers see Jesus in the skin in the lives of Christians; they could be provoked to seek Him for themselves. God gives us opportunity to show love and do good works daily. If He’s put someone on your heart, reach out and receive the blessing that comes from obedience.

Hebrews 10:25 – “Let us not forsake the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but let us exhort one another, especially as you see the Day approaching.”  No one could argue that we are living in trying times. Sadly; some churches closed their doors; congregations no longer able to assemble together in the traditional manner.

Church attendance has steadily declined over the years. People leave the church and don’t return, while others simply choose not to attend at all. They don’t see the importance of church or having a church family.

Hebrews 10:25 speaks to my heart. Church attendance is important to me; and so is my church family. Be thankful if you live in an area where you can still attend church. Don’t take it for granted.

Charlotte is a sweet lady who loves to attend church. She loves the Lord, and is quick to testify what He’s doing in her life. Recently, she shared with the congregation. “My kidneys haven’t been working great. I didn’t feel well today but I knew I had to get to church. Please know I feel your prayers. Don’t stop. They are working.” The congregation prayed together for Charlotte, and she left the church feeling better than when she came in. How do I know that? She testified to that effect at the next service. Her faith and love for the Lord is contagious. No matter who has a need at our church, time is taken to pray and God comes through. The praise reports speaks for themselves.

People today have the option of watching church services online where they get a great message. And I have done that on occasion, but nothing compares to being among your church family.

Unbelievers will not understand the importance of assembling together, but God is warning believers in His Word that we are not to forsake assembling ourselves especially as we see the Day approaching. The world we live in is forever changing, and God wants us to know the truth found in His Word, to encourage one another, and be prepared for when we meet Jesus face-to-face. What a glorious day that will be!
