Angels On Guard

70 best Psalm 91 - God's protection images on PinterestWe recently had a severe snow storm in our area. A friend of mine shared a memory of one particular snow storm where she felt she and her husband were truly in danger of dying.

Testimony stories are powerful and need to be shared.  I asked my friend’s permission to use it in a Blog post, and she graciously agreed. Here’s the story in her own words.

“Ron was transferred to Nova Scotia and we had to leave and be there in the morning. New Brunswick was hit by one of our terrible St Patrick’s Day storms, yet Ron was told he absolutely had to be at his new job in the morning, so off we went in our very old car. My mother-in-law graciously agreed to keep our daughter but there was no way I was letting my husband drive there alone.

“The roads quickly became undriveable, yet we continued, all the while listening to the radio as roads were closing. We became progressively more nervous as reports flooded the airwaves of cars in ditches until ultimately it was announced due to whiteout conditions, no police or emergency vehicles would be able to help anyone.

As we approached the flats just before the Nova Scotia border our car died, froze would be a better term. The alternator froze and we were on the side of the road in a whiteout. We got out to look around. Suddenly; a transport truck going very fast passed about three feet in front of us. We couldn’t see it…nor could he see us.

I looked at Ron and said, “We are going to be okay right?”…no response. He looked at me as if we were done. Miles from nowhere, roads closed, and no cell phones back then.

Just as this sank in, we had a “suddenly” moment that many who trust in God experience. Suddenly, a van pulled up beside us, opened the sliding door, and a smiling faces says, “Need some help?”

DID WE! These two men who seemed to appear out of nowhere invited us into this warm surreal spectacle with open arms. Not only did they find their way to the next town, but helped us get a tow truck, and any other help we needed.

We were brought to a hotel, and as I approached the front desk I realized I had nothing, no money, no ID, nothing. The lady behind the desk handed me a key and said, “You should go rest, we’ll take care of anything else later!”

In the morning, news stories spoke of people dying, found frozen in their cars on the side of the road and in ditches.

God had made himself known to us once again as our all-sufficient, saving God…never think prayer doesn’t change situations…”God help!”…He will ALWAYS be there for those who lean on and trust in Him, always.

Who were those men? No idea, it’s as if their faces were wiped from our memory, but their mission seemed clear…God’s kids needed help…go help them.”

Yes; my friend thought their situation was hopeless, until they cried out to God for help. And we read how God intervened on their behalf.

I titled the post, Angels On Guard, because after I read the story, Psalm 91:11 came to my mind where it says, “for He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.”

Do you suppose the two men were angels? God’s Word is true. I believe these two men were angels and did what God commanded them to do. My friend and her husband’s lives were spared.

The natural reaction in perilous time is to fear. What God wants us to do is cry out to Him for help, then trust Him to intervene on our behalf, in His time and way. His ways are higher than ours, so we must be prepared for the unexpected as the God of suddenly comes through for us.

I pray this testimony story encourages you as it did me. We have assurance that the angels God assigned concerning us will guard us in all our ways. And all means all, not just same. Let’s thank the Lord today for the angels He has assigned over us.
