The Bible is true in saying the Lord’s thoughts and ways are definitely higher than ours.
My husband and I enjoy doing morning devotions together. I have a faith library filled with books written by Christian men and women.
On Saturday morning, I grabbed from the sehlf, God Still Speaks written by Monty Lewis with Ellen Christine Smith. I treasure the personal hand-written note from Monty. “Thank you Anne-Marie for the years of fellowship, encouragement and blessings you have been over the years. Blessings, friend Monty Lewis – John 3:17.
We read the Forward by Marvin McGee, a Pastoral & Prison Minister with Kenneth Copeland Ministries Canada. The book contains twenty-three short chapters detailing how God and others spoke to Monty Lewis throughout his life.
Monty Lewis had been involved in prison ministry for over thirty-five years. Thus, he visited numerous prisons, schools, universities and First Nation communities. He traveled extensively throughout Canada and the United States. His passion was to reach those who were lost, and encouraged them to seek a better life through the gospel of Jesus Christ.
His first book, The Caper, tells the dynamic testimony of the miraculous power of Jesus Christ in Monty’s Lewis life. While lying naked, broken and hopeless in a solitary confinement cell in London, Ontario, he prayed a prayer of desperation. And to his absolute amazement, God answered that prayer and touched him with His supernatural power. After spending years in and out of jails, detention centers, prisons and mental institutions, Monty Lewis’ life of crime and drug abuse was totally transformed.
The Caper has been distributed free of charge in prisons world-wide. The message is so powerful that it has become required reading in many Canadian public school systems.
Lewis knew firsthand that God speaks to His children, as the Lord had spoken to him numerous times over the course of his lifetime. When the Lord put on his heart to write another book, God Still Speaks became the title. This wonderful book was released in May 2012 and, just like The Caper, the message within will encourage and transform lives.
At birth, Lewis was named Marshal Montgomery Lewis, a distinguished name indeed, for a babe born in the mining town of New Waterford, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia in the mid-1940s. What would become of this child? Would he succumb to the life-style of those who lived around him, who became hard-working and hard-drinking family men? It was likely; yet, a prophetic word was spoken over Lewis’ life when he was just a baby. His Aunt Rhoda told his mother, Helen, that one day her son would be a minister. Neither Helen nor anyone else in the community could envision that possibility. It was just too far fetched!
God Still Speaks provides living-proof that the prophetic words given to Monty Lewis along with those he has given to others, have come to pass. Against all odds, God’s plan for Lewis to become a minister occurred, and the stories shared in his book clearly support that through God all things are possible.
Sadly; Monty Lewis passed way in June of 2013. A man of God, one who deeply loved his family, and devoted his life to serving the Lord.
On Sunday evening, Mike and I attended a church service. We were overjoyed to see our friend Darren sitting in a pew. We didn’t know he was asked by Pastor Ed to deliver the message. The Lord has anointed brother Darren with several gifts and callings. One being the gift of prophesy, and throughout his message he shared prophecies given by the Lord regarding himself, and others seated in the congregation. He delivered a powerful message proving God does speak to those whom will listen.
After the service we had a time of fellowship in the church basement. Our ears perked up when we overheard Darren mention Monty Lewis’ name. We told him that we were currently reading Monty’s book, God Still Speaks, based on the gift of prophesy.
I began this post saying God’s thoughts and ways are higher than ours. Yes; they certainly are. I believe God has a greater purpose for having me select God Still Speaks from among the books in my faith library. The prophetic words spoken over Monty Lewis came to pass.
God is no respecter of persons. Could it be that God wishes to speak to brother Darren through the pages of Monty Lewis’ book? If so, I would love to bless him with a copy. With God, all things are possible. Hallelujah!
