Be Still And Know That I Am God

Psalm 46:10 is one of my favorite scriptures. It’s a short verse, easy to remember, and contains a message that reminds us that there are times when we need just be still, and let God do what needs to be done for our good in any given situation.

Years ago while in a church service, my mind was racing to and fro trying to sift through the ashes of what was going on in my life at the time. Suddenly, I heard in my spirit, “Be still, child, be still”. God lovingly interrupted my thoughts to comfort me. Hearing Him say, “Be still, child” allowed me to realize, my heavenly Father was aware of what was going on in my life. That He would help me get through this turmoil. And He did, hallelujah, thank you Jesus.

Fast forward to 2026, has God changed since I first heard Him say, “Be still, child?” No, He has not changed, but I have and for the better. I’ve been a Christian for several years now, and I’m a work in progress, and will be until the Lord calls me home.

Besides Psalm 46:10 in my Bible, I wrote, in Hebrew be still means to let go. Let go of what? I believe it’s letting go of the situation or problem and waiting patiently for God to handle it. There’s a song I love to sing titled, God’s Waiting Room. It was written by  a Christian woman dealing with a problem she didn’t know how to solve. There’s a beautiful message in the lyrics of the song.

The words Be Still in Psalm 46:10 reminds me that when life gets busy, we may struggle to take the time to  talk to God, read our Bible or even pray. Lately it has occurred to me the benefits of just being still before the Lord. How can God speak if I’m doing all the talking?

I have a greater appreciation for Psalm 46:10 and why King David knew this to be true. He often sat before the Lord in times of trouble. While being still, God gave him wisdom and knowledge in his times of need. God will do the same for us, He is no respecter of persons

Be still and know that I am God. How does Psalm 46:10 speak to your heart? Leave me a comment, I would love to know your thoughts.

Blessings,

Anne-Marie

    • Yes, being still is not always easy but we know God will answer our prayers in His time and way, and it will always be for our good.
