The Prayer Of Jabez

Recently while reading comments on Goodreads, an author stated how much she enjoyed the book, The Prayer of JabezBreaking Through to the Blessed Life, written by Bruce Wilkinson. And how this book impacted her life. I’ve since discovered this book has impacted the lives of a multitude of people.

Just days before I read the comment, I came across this book at a local thrift store but didn’t buy it. Well; I went back to the thrift store and found it, along with two other books in the series. The Secret of the Vine, and The Life God Rewards. God is so good; He put all three books in my path, at little cost, because He knew how much I would enjoy them.

I read The Prayer of Jabez in a couple of days, then chose to read it again. I didn’t want to miss a thing of what the author revealed about my heavenly Father.

I admit, I’ve read I Chronicles 4:10 numerous times but never grasped the amazing message provided in that one verse. Thank You Lord for opening my eyes to see, my ears to ear, and my heart to understand.

Bruce Wilkinson ends his book with a 30-day challenge, on how to make the prayer of Jabez mine, and provides a plan to follow. Here’s what I’m to do.

  1. Pray the Jabez prayer every morning, and keep a record of my daily prayer by marking each day off on a calendar. I chose the lovely Our Daily Bread calendar on the wall in my home office.
  2. Write out the prayer and tape it in my Bible, bathroom mirror, or someplace where I’ll be reminded of my new vision. I chose my journal.
  3. Reread the little book once each week over the 30 day period, asking God to show me important insights I might have missed.
  4. Tell one other person of my commitment and ask them to check up on me; to keep me accountable. I chose my husband.
  5. Keep a record of changes in my life, especially in divine appointments and new opportunities that I can attribute to the Jabez prayer. Months ago I purchased a journal but never used it. It has a pink cover with the words, ASK FOR WHAT YOU WANT and be prepared TO GET IT. This is too amazing for words. Yesterday, I made my first entry – Day 1 of 30 – July 21, 2022 with the prayer of Jabez written out as directed in Step. 2.
  6. Start praying the Jabez prayer for my family, friends, and local church. Yes, I’m anticipating that answers to prayer will come forth in ways I least expect.

I love how the verse ends, And God granted his request. I’m a mature believer now, I know God is no respecter of persons. What God did for Jabez, He can and will do more me. How He will grant my requests, I do not know, but God is good, I’m expecting an abundance of His goodness in the next 30 days.

August 19th will mark the end of the 30-day challenge. Expect a testimony from me shortly after that date.

May God bless you greatly today, and in the ones to come. Amen
