God Heals The Brokenhearted

The Christmas season is upon us and should be a time of celebration and rejoicing but sadly for many it’s not. Men, women and children all around us are brokenhearted over the lost of loved ones, and are coping with spending not only Christmas, but the rest of their lives without them. Others are brokenhearted by being separated from loved ones due to distance or financial hardship. Countless reasons cause people to be brokenhearted and God sees their pain and understands.

Along with having a broken heart, people openly admit to being lonely after a divorce, death of a loved one, or when a child leaves home. Others experience loneliness even when among a room full of people. Regardless the causes for a a heart to be broken or the loneliness that accompanies it; God longs to fill the empty void with His love. He sees the pain and tears that fall. The Bible says in Psalm 34:18, “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted” and in Psalm 147:3, “He heals the broken in heart.”

The Lord did a marvelous word when He created the earth. He wanted someone to share it with Him so He created Adam. When Adam named the creatures, he observed all had mates except him. God saw it was not food for Adam to be alone so He created Eve to be a life-long helpmate, champion, and friend to walk beside him.

God created people so He would have a family, and He longs for us to have a personal relationship with Him and others. Before Jesus resurrected, He said He would send the Holy Spirt to be a Comforter to us. His Word also says He with never leave us or abandon us.

God is always available to listen, and we can talk to Him anytime of the day or night. He will understand those periods of loneliness and offer solutions to help. Perhaps to reach out to others. The Holy Spirit may bring someone to mind. And He does the same for us by putting our names on someone’s heart and mind. Think about that the next time you receive an unexpected call from a family member or friend. Texts and email are great, but nothing compares to hearing the voice of a family member or friend. It’s amazing how good conversation and laughter lift one’s spirits.

I love the quote written by Kay Arthur: “Snuggle in God’s arms. When you are hurting, when you feel lonely, left out, let Him cradle you, comfort you, reassure you of His all sufficient power and love.”

Let’s pray. Lord, when feelings of loneliness come upon us, we can reach out to You for comfort. We’ve never alone as You’ve always near; waiting to fill the empty void in our hearts with Your love.

  1. Anne, this is a great topic:
I have experienced being alone as I’m sure many others have, its real pain although unseen.
Praise God for his comfort, for a spouse, a friend or family to rely on and that can rely on us!
    Thanks Mike
