What Psalm 50:23 Reveals About God

Sometime ago I came across Psalm 50:23 and I pondered its meaning. My Bible of choice is the Modern English Version. The verse reads as follows: “Whoever sacrifices a thank offering glories Me and makes a way; I will show him the salvation of God.”

It pleases God when we meditate on His Word. The more we read the Bible, the more we learn about God and His wonderful ways.

The Internet is a wonderful tool when desiring information. I did a search to find additional verses that pertained to “sacrifice a thank offering.” I came across several verses, here’s two of them:

Psalm 107:21-22

Let them praise the Lord for His goodness and for His wonderful works to the people! And let them offer the sacrifices of thanksgiving.

Psalm 116:17

I will offer to You the sacrifice of thanksgiving and will call upon the name of the Lord.

It’s easy to give God a sacrifice of thanksgiving when things are going well. We easily say, “Thank you Lord for all your blessings on me.” Right? What about the times when we don’t feel so blessed?

Like when we are sick. Imagine how pleased God is when we say, “Lord, I’m battling sickness, and I feel terrible. I stand on Your Word that says, You will give me strength when I am sick and make me well again.  I offer up a sacrifice of praise and give thanks for the healing You provide.”

When money is tight. “Lord, the bills are piling up and I’ve no way to pay them. Lord, I will not fear. Instead I’ll sacrifice a thank offering as I stand on Your Word which says, You will supply my every need, according to Your riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Thank you Lord for meeting my need in Your time and way.”

As I read these verses, I’m reminded that we can sacrifice a thank offering to God regardless of the circumstances we are in. King David sets a good example. No matter what kind of trouble he found himself in; He gave thanks and praise to God.

Psalm 50:23 tells us that when we give thanks and glorify God; He will make a way for us; He will show us His salvation. This is one among many of God’s promises found in the Bible.

For me to sacrifice means to give something up for a purpose. For instance, when we fast; we sacrifice eating so we can draw closer to God.

When we sacrifice our time to listen or help others; we’re letting them know we value them. When we sacrifice a thank offering to God; we’re letting Him know that we appreciate all that He is; and all that He does on a daily basis.

I pray Psalm 50:23 gives you food for thought. Please feel free to leave me a comment; I would love to hear from you.
