Christians Have A Citizenship In Heaven

My husband recently got news that his sister, Corinne, passed away in her sleep. She was 77 and battling pneumonia but was expected to recover.  Yet she died suddenly. Corinne is now a citizen of heaven, and has relocated to her heavenly home. Praise the Lord!

The Bible tells us that we all have an appointed time to die. None of us will escape death. It will come. When? At God’s appointed time and not a moment sooner.

It’s hard to lose a loved one; we don’t want to be apart from them. Yet; for Christians, knowing where their loved one will spend eternity gives comfort. They believe their loved one is in heaven. No more sickness; no longer in pain. Simply enjoying time in the presence of Jesus, their Lord and Savior.

I recently sang, If You Only Knew at church. It’s a comforting song. It was like someone in heaven was telling their earthly family, “Don’t grieve for me. Don’t wish me back. I’m in heaven, in the presence of Jesus. Things truly look much better from heaven’s view.”

Little did I know when I sang that song that the words in it would personally bring me comfort. As a born-again Christian, I have the assurance that my citizenship is in heaven, the place where I’ll spend eternity. That I’ll see Corrine, other loved ones, and friends again.

Christians may not fear death itself, but honestly fear how it will occur. One dear friend of mine told me; “I have no fear of death, but how it will happen.”  When her time came, she died peacefully in her husband’s arms surrounded by her family. She was a dear saint on this earth; I look forward to seeing her again in heaven.

We must never assume that we’ll have time to make things right with the Lord. Heaven is not promised to everyone. The Bible is clear, only those who are born-again will be citizens in heaven and spend eternity there.

If you want to know more about what it means to be born again, read Romans 10:9-12. That’s a great place to start. With salvation comes many blessings. Your life will never be the same, only better. Don’t wait until it’s too late to make things right with the Lord. If you want to spend eternity in heaven. Do it today!
