If asked, “Do you believe in Jesus?” My response would be, “Yes,” because I do believe in Him. What does John 14:12 say? Believers will do the same works as Jesus, and to a greater degree.
If Jesus said it, I know it is true. So how can believers fulfill this commission? We can start by studying what did while He was on the earth.
Jesus put the Word of God in His ears:
Mark 4:24: He said to them, “Take heed what you hear. The measure you give will be measured for you, and to you who hear will more be given.
John 14:24: He who does not love Me does not keep My words. The word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father’s who sent Me.
Jesus put the Word of God in His Mind:
Luke 4:8: And Jesus answered him, “Get behind Me, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only shall you serve.’”
John 14:10: Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own authority. But the Father who lives in Me does the works.
Jesus put the Word of God in His Heart:
Matthew 13:54:When He came to His own country, He taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished, and said, “Where did this Man get this wisdom and these mighty works?
John 17:8: For I have given them the words which You gave Me. They have received them and certainly know that I came from You, and they have believed that You sent Me.
Jesus spoke God’s Word out loud in Faith:
Mark 4:39: He rose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” Then the wind ceased and there was a great calm.
John 11:43-44: When He had said this, He cried out with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” He who was dead came out, his hands and feet wrapped with grave clothes, and his face wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Unbind him, and let him go.”
Yes; Jesus did amazing works while on the earth, because He steadfastly put God’s Word in His ears, in His mind, in His heart, and spoke God’s Word out loud in faith. He depended upon the Father for everything He did.
And for believers to do greater works than Jesus, we have to follow in His footsteps. The Bible tells us in Romans 10:17: “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Reading our Bible consistently enables us to put God’s Word in our ears, our minds, our hearts, and speak them out loud in faith. It worked for Jesus; it will work for us too. If God has greater works for us to do; He will equip us in every way, just like He did for Jesus. His Word says so!
